Australians given heavy fine for Chinese testosterone package.
STEROID importers have used Chinese wall hangings and lint rollers to disguise their illicit cargo, border protection officials say.
Two Perth men aged 26 and 29 have been ordered to pay combined fines and legal costs of $74,946 for illegally importing the drugs.
The men were arrested after Australian Customs and Border Protection Service officers working at the Sydney International Mail Facility intercepted a parcel from China in September last year.
Inside they found two decorative Chinese wall hangings, in which snap lock bags containing 530 grams of testosterone benzoate were concealed.
The same month, customs officers at Perth's Air Cargo facility intercepted another package from Hong Kong.
Inside they found three lint rollers, in which three snap lock bags containing about 215 grams of testosterone benzoate were hidden.
A fortnight later officers raided the homes of two men in Armadale and Mount Pleasant to find more steroids and equipment used to manufacture steroids.
The 29-year-old was fined $30,000 and $6346 in costs for two counts of importing prohibited imports while the 26-year-old was fined $30,000 and $8600 in costs for two counts of aiding and abetting the importation of prohibited imports.
