British man jailed for smuggling 14000 Testosterone ampules from Pakistan.

"An unemployed man from Sheffield has been jailed for two years after smuggling £150,000 worth of anabolic steroids illegally into the UK.

Parvez Atta, aged 31 of Main Road, Sheffield, was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court yesterday (18 September 2009) after he was found guilty following a two-day trial last month.

The consignment of drugs was contained in two pieces of hand luggage carried by Atta when he arrived on a flight from Karachi, Pakistan, at Heathrow airport on 1 March 2009.

Detection officers from the UK Border Agency (UKBA) found the haul of 35.6 kilos of Testosterone, around 14,000 ampoules, when they searched his baggage.

Atta claimed to be returning from a friends wedding in Pakistan, although he had no other luggage or personal effects with him.

Assistant Director of Criminal Investigation for HMRC, Peter Avery said: “We are alert to all drugs being smuggled illegally into the UK, including Class C drugs such as steroids. They are as addictive and dangerous as Class A drugs when used in the wrong hands."

How on earth did he clear outgoing airport security with 35 kg of ampules in his hand luggage ?

"They are as addictive and dangerous as Class A drugs when used in the wrong hands."

To compare the danger posed by steroids to that of Class A drugs is crazy. I'd love to hear his definition of the wrong hands ?

The estimated value of 150k pounds is a joke ( 10 pounds for each amp ? ), retail street prices are half that at most ( 5 pounds per amp ). On prescription in UK it's less than 2 pounds an ampule.
