Besides the "hundreds of interviews" the team conducted, they relied on documentary evidence such as sworn depositions, medical records, courtroom transcripts, photographs, records from criminal investigations, and personal correspondence.
The e-mails, text messages and phone calls from Clemens and McNamee might be the most compelling elements in the entire drama. At one point, their exchanges show a real desperation in both men. McNamee is racked with guilt for having to spill his story to the feds, while Clemens waffles between confusion and bravado while trying to get out of the toughest bases-loaded jam of his career. "
