"Scott Bage, 28, was visiting his brother at HMP Onley, near Daventry, on February 23, when a guard spotted them acting suspiciously.
Rebecca Wade, prosecuting, said: "A prison guard was observing the visit first hand and via CCTV and one of the males shook hands with the inmate in what was thought to be a weird way, pulling each other towards each other. Daniel Bage's hand then went down his trousers and the CCTv showed a small package had been handed to him.
Northampton Crown Court heard how forensic analysis of the package revealed it contained four subutex tablets, which is an H substitute, and 41 methandienone steroids tablets."
