Domestic steroid source sentenced.

"A Massachusetts man accused of smuggling steroids, human growth hormone and other illegal prescription drugs into the United States has been sentenced in New Hampshire to 3½ years in prison.

Twenty-seven-year-old Christopher Chase was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to conspiracy and money laundering charges. Prosecutors say he had illegal drugs shipped from China and other countries and then sold them over the Internet, using fake Web sites to trick banks into thinking he was selling legitimate merchandise.

He was accused of mailing more than 500 packages within the United States and abroad between December 2005 and September 2006."

Highlights of the original bust story from 2007.

The three took in at least $670,000 during their illegal operation, prosecutors said.

A federal indictment states the ring imported both legal and illegal prescription drugs that are commonly abused by body builders, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader. The drugs are anabolic steroids, human growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor-1 and Clenbueterol.

With the exception of Clenbuterol, the Food and Drug Administration allows the drugs for medical reasons but not for body building. Clenbuterol has not been approved for any use.

Prosecutors say the drugs were imported from China and Eastern Europe and were illegally sold over the Internet across the United States. The indictment says Chase created bank accounts to receive Internet payments and told banks the money was from Web sites that sold legal merchandise such as baseball cards.

It was rather cheeky of them to offer both domestic shipping and credit card payments through their local banks. I wonder what happened to his two business partners ?
