Nigeria says 250 tonnes of fake drugs seized.

"Nigeria's food and drugs control agency seized 250 tonnes of fake pharmaceuticals and cosmetics valued at 2.7 million dollars in the northern city of Kano, an official said Sunday.

Three Nigerians and a foreigner suspected of importing the seized drugs into Nigeria have been arrested, Hashim Ubale Yusuf, director of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) told AFP.

"Our surveillence operations paid off on Saturday when we raided a warehouse and seized 250 tonnes of counterfeit drugs and cosmetics worth 2.7 million dollars," he said.

Fake and adulterated drugs are common in Nigeria because of the high cost of imported ones."
