Australian Olympian blames steroid suspension for drug career.

"Baggaley, a triple K1 500m world champion, awaits sentencing in Lismore District Court after pleading guilty to the sale and distribution of 1509 X tablets in late 2007. In sentencing submissions today, his lawyer John Weller said the dual Olympian hadn't recovered after being banned for steroid use in 2005.

"From becoming a world champion, becoming an award winner ... he'd done nothing else,'' he said. "Suddenly his world was gone and he didn't address the issues.''

Baggaley, who won two silver medals at the 2004 Athens Games, was banned for two years after testing positive to steroids.
