The use of steroids and other P.E.Ds defended by academics.

"Performance-enhancing drugs should be allowed in professional and Olympic sports, given that some of the sports athletes play are inherently more dangerous in the long term than drugs and also because of public acquiescence of steroid use, two American academics argued Friday.

Morgan also believes there should be a distinction drawn between drugs that help athletes recover from injury or heavy training and things like beta blockers, which he would ban, that address an athlete's anxiety, nerves or mental toughness, which he suggested is really what athletic competition is all about.

"(Are recovery-aiding steroids) really that different than giving somebody a pain-killing shot? Is it really different than Gatorade? I mean, if you're a heat-sensitive athlete and you can take a drink that has certain chemical in it to restore your electrolyte balance, why doesn't anyone have a problem with that?''

Personally I have no issue with athletes using relatively safe drugs like steroids and hgh.

Rather than random testing for PED's I suggest we switch to random health screening of athletes to make sure they are being sensible with their chosen drug regimes.
