Charges against UG steroid lab operator dropped.

The case against a man charged in connection with operating a business in Blairs that sold Chinese steroids online has been dropped. Steven Donald Wood of 4013 Pittwood Drive, Danville, faced two counts of distributing anabolic steroids and five counts of money laundering in connection with the operation at 3801 U.S. 29 in Blairs. Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Wood on Sept. 15, 2011, after investigators from the sheriff’s office and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security carried out a search warrant at the business the previous day. Chief Deputy Assistant Commonwealths Attorney Bryan Haskins requested to not prosecute Wood in Pittsylvania County General District Court Monday. The legal move, nolle prosequi (Latin for “we shall not prosecute”), allows the prosecution to re-introduce charges later, said Wood’s defense attorney, Glenn Berger. General District Court Judge George Jones granted Haskins’ request. Attempts to reach Haskins were unsuccessful Wednesday. According to a report from the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Investigator Robert Worsham, the business received shipments of raw powdered anabolic steroids from Shanghai.
