Future vaccine technology should allow the body to release higher levels of HGH and IGF-1.

"A new vaccine technology that stimulates the body to release more of its own Growth Hormone ("GH") and Insulin Growth Factor 1 ("IGF-1") is expected to open a new world of treatment options for growth hormone deficiencies, obesity, specific types of diabetes as well as for a potentially long list of IGF-1 responsive neurological disorders. Braasch Biotech LLC announced today that they have successfully created a vaccine technology specifically designed to generate a high level of antibodies against somatostatin, the inhibiting hormone that controls the release of Growth Hormone. The vaccine's mode of action is to generate highly specific antibodies which attenuate but do not entirely eliminate the mostly inhibitory actions of somatostatin, which helps the body to continue to release more of its own GH and IGF-1. Braasch's innovative approach allows the body to do this on its own without having to use "drugs" and thereby presents a new treatment option for human medicine."

Hawkins County, Tennessee man accused of intent to manufacture steroids.

"A Hawkins County man allegedly found earlier this year in possession of directions and ingredients for making steroids was named last week in a 10-count grand jury indictment

Jeffery Allen Delph, 37, 128 McCloud Church Road, Rogersville, was arrested on Feb. 26 during a traffic stop by Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Christie Osborne.

Delph was the owner of the vehicle, and although he was a passenger at the time of the traffic stop, he allegedly admitted that everything found in the car with the exception of the driver’s purse belonged to him.

Among those possessions were a bag in the trunk in which Osborne allegedly found vials of several ingredients used in the manufacture of anabolic steroids and directions to make steroids.

The vehicle also allegedly contained needles and filters used in the manufacturing process."

Steroids spreading in Sydney story from Australia's Daily Telegraph.

"llegal steroid imports are being seized in record numbers as organised crime gangs move into an illicit market worth millions of dollars a year.

Demand for the dangerous drugs is soaring in Sydney with Customs investigation chief Richard Janeczko pointing to the city's celebrity-driven image culture as one factor driving demand.

Such is the demand across Sydney for steroids to boost physical appearance that experts have even changed their generic name from performance-enhancing drugs to performance and image-enhancing drugs.

Sydney has become the epicentre of steroid demand with more drugs than ever now being seized at the city's international airport and discovered in mail coming into the country."

‘He loves the gym more than me’ story from UK's News of the World.

"Salesman James Broad, 31, from Bristol, has been taking steroids to beef up his body for more than four years - despite them zapping his sex drive and leaving his girlfriend, Nikki Cox, 40, fed up and frustrated.

James injects himself with steroids a couple of times a weeks for two months before taking a four-month break. Nikki, who works in a supermarket, says she didn't like it when he started taking them, but James is too obsessed with his body to quit.

"The steroids take his mojo away and sex is the last thing on his mind. It's frustrating, but as he doesn't take them all the time, we work around it. He's a perfectionist and says they make a difference so he won't give them up."

James admits that using steroids leaves him exhausted, although he suffers no other side effects and says he can handle how they make him feel.

"I'd always refused to use steroids, but I hit a plateau trying to bulk up and decided to give them a go. After using them a few times I put on 3st of muscle.

"The fact I don't want to have sex does cause problems. I know a lot of people in my position have the same problem - they're just so exhausted."

James began working out at the age of 21, when a girlfriend mocked his 'wimpy' 10st body. Despite warnings from his doctor about steroids, he loves how they make his body look - but admits he "still wants to be even bigger".

The couple have been dating for three years, after meeting in the gym, but have no plans to move in together. Not that Nikki would see any more of James - his days revolve around his physique.

He gets up at 6am to exercise and watch porn and eats a high-protein diet, but "cheats" once a week with a takeaway or meal out. Last year his obsession came close to tearing their relationship apart.

"He was going to the gym every day, sometimes twice. I hardly ever saw him," says Nikki. "He was exhausted, cranky, and it caused big rows. I felt like I wasn't a priority any more, so decided to end it."

At the same time, James tore muscles in his shoulder, which left him unable to train, and Nikki gave their relationship another chance. Now James has cut down on his exercise but still goes to the gym most days. Nikki says: "If I want to be with him I have to learn to live with it - he's not going to change."

Seems the wife and journalists arn't listening to this chap. He's simply tired from training and can't be bothered to shag his wife it's not a side effect from the steroids he's using.

Oklahoma steroid investigation still ongoing.

"Law enforcement officials from local and state agencies were at 44th and Doolin Thursday as part of an ongoing alleged crime involving steroids.

Mark Woodward, public information officer for the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, said agents were following up on information regarding the use of steroids, but that the agency couldn't release other details because it is an ongoing investigation. He was unsure about whether the investigation involved use or distribution of steroids, but said either way, it is still an alleged crime. Two people were taken into custody by Kay County deputies, according to the Kay County Sheriff's Office. Assisting the agents from the OBN were Stillwater police officers, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Kay County Sheriff's Office and Blackwell Police Department."

Court’s Steroid Ruling Pumps Up Computer Privacy.

"A divided 11-judge federal appeals court panel has dramatically narrowed the government’s search-and-seizure powers in the digital age, ruling Wednesday that federal prosecutors went too far when seizing 104 professional baseball players’ drug results when they had a warrant for just 10."

"The government’s search protocol must be designed to uncover only the information for which it has probable cause, and only that information may be examined by the case agents."

Lesbian doping scandal ?

"What I tested positive to, I don't know about it but what I'm thinking is that I got it from the Mobil Track and Field Championships. It was given to me by Vivian and what she gave me is like an energy drink so, I don't know.

Because she didn't give it to me at Berlin; she gave me just before I went to Mauritius so that is why the quantity of the drug sample they saw during the dope test in Mauritius was too high but in Berlin it was very low, so it is from Mobil.""

"All the four athletes that tested positive, were ladies and they all tested positive to the same drug Methenolone. They were all together at the Mobil Championship and according to officials of AFN, they are romantically linked."

Gender row athlete Caster Semenya has high levels of the male hormone testosterone.

"Gender row athlete Caster Semenya had three times the normal female level of testosterone in her body, reports claimed yesterday.

Tests carried out before the start of the World Athletics Championships proved the 800m gold medallist had very high levels of the male hormone, according to sources close to the investigation.

It is believed this information led to the IAAF’s decision to ask the South African athletics body to carry out a detailed “gender verification” test on the athlete."

Australian customs busts female steroid smuggler on flight from Lebanon.

"An attempt by a 36-year-old woman from South Granville to import steroids into Australia by concealing them in objects within her luggage, including a child's doll, has been stopped by Customs and Border Protection officers.

The woman was stopped by Customs and Border Protection officers when she arrived in Sydney on a flight from Lebanon on Sunday 23 August.

After examining the woman's luggage, items including a doll and a box containing a satellite tuner were x-rayed. The x-ray revealed 500 vials concealed within the two items.

Further examination of the luggage revealed an additional 434 vials of steroids."

No matter how well you hide your steroids in your luggage they will still be visible to a state of the art xray scanner :-(

Floridian busted trying to mail overnight pack containing steroids and cash.

"A former football player now working as a bar bouncer tried to send steroids to a man in Florida, but he was arrested after an alert clerk started asking questions, charges say.

Kelby Taylor tried to ship steroids overnight through Mail Room Etc. in March, but a clerk became suspicious when she felt aluminum foil inside the package, according to arrest papers.

Taylor told the clerk he was sending "documents" to a friend in Florida and explained the foil contained "cologne" before he left the business, which then notified police, charges say.

The package was opened and inside were three bottles of fluids and two envelopes containing cash in amounts of $360 and $2,120, arrest papers say.

Police said the bottles were marked "Winny 50" and "Tren100," later identified as the anabolic steroids Winstrol and Trenbolone Acetate.

Dawn Quinn-Doiron, chief executive at Mail Room Etc., said any package that appears suspicious can be opened and inspected on site unless it is a U.S. Postal Service delivery, in which case postal inspectors are notified. Either the appearance of a package or the demeanor of a customer can be red flags, she said, and could lead to a package being opened.

Taylor, who would not say where he obtained the injectable steroids when questioned by police, was charged with several drug counts involving illegal possession and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. Police say they also recovered more steroids in various vials at his residence along with 17 syringes and three packs of pills, all of which were sent to a laboratory for analysis."

This bust happened back in March it's not clear why the story only hit the press today. Cash and steroids in the same package is not the greatest idea. Sounds to me like he was returning some products he was unhappy with to his supplier. It appears he had the sense to keep his mouth shut during questioning.

Nigerian female runner caught using Primobolan.

"Ogoegbunam, a student of Tourism in a University in Cyprus, who takes coaching tutorials from coach Taiwo Ariyo tested positive for the anabolic steroid, metenolone at the just concluded the African Junior Championships in Bambous, Mauritius. She won four gold medals at the championships, equalling the performance of Mercy Nku at the second edition of the championships in Bouake, Cote D'Ivoire in 1985."

Australian customs finds steroid ampules hidden in hair gel.

"A 25-year-old Auburn man was stopped and questioned by Customs and Border Protection officers when he arrived at Sydney International Airport on a flight from Lebanon on Thursday.

During a luggage examination, officers x-rayed two commercially packaged saucepans and found anomalies consistent with a concealment. Officers opened the saucepans and each was found to contain a large tub labelled as 'styling gel'.

The two tubs were examined and approximately two hundred vials labelled as either 'Sustanon' or 'Nanbrolone Decanoate' were found suspended in an inert gel substance.

It will be alleged that a bag containing a further 23 vials also labelled as 'Sustanon' was found in the man's possession, along with a container of 23 tablets believed to be Dianabol. Officers also identified suspected prohibited images containing violence on the man's mobile phone."

I think it's safe to assume Australian customs are currently 0n the look out for muscular men arriving from Lebanon and Thailand.

Australian customs busts another steroid smuggler on flight from Bangkok.

"A 35-year-old man from Frankston South was stopped for questioning by Customs and Border Protection when he arrived at Melbourne International Airport on a flight from Bangkok on Wednesday 19 August.

During baggage examinations, officers allegedly located approximately 100 tablets containing illegal performance and image enhancing drugs.

Officers subsequently conducted a frisk search of the man. The search revealed he was concealing 655 vials and 575 tablets containing steroids strapped to his legs underneath tights.

In total, more than 1,200 vials and tablets containing performance and image enhancing drugs were seized."

Looks like this guy was carrying Karachi Sustanon which isn't very good value for money when purchased in Thailand. Again it's a miracle how he passed through Bangkok airport's security which includes a pat down all the way down to your ankles. I suspect the amps were in his hand luggage and he moved them to their unsuccessful hiding place during the flight. Had he not messed up and left a few hundred tabs in his luggage it's unlikley the rest of his stash would have been discovered.

Pakistan's "The News International" newspaper investigates pharmaceutical smuggling.

"The District Health Department’s ongoing crackdown against drugstores and stockists involved in sale of spurious, expired and illegal (unregistered) medicines has managed to control the illegal trade to a significant extent but the phenomenon could not be checked completely.

A survey conducted by ‘The News’ revealed that most common unregistered drugs found on sale in almost all markets of the country are being smuggled from India and China. Market sources informed ‘The News’ that a number of smuggled drugs of Indian origin are being brought into the country illegally through KSA and UAE.

Amazingly a good number of genuine drugs are also smuggled in the country mainly through the Karachi Port. Most of the German-based homeopathic medicines are being brought in from Germany illegally to save tax, said sources.

The market sources also informed ‘The News’ that fake, counterfeit drugs — copies of many imported drugs — are being prepared in Pakistan while some importers are getting the copies from India and China on order. Sources said that Karachi is the hub of illegal drug trade.

The most common smuggled drugs on sale include ‘Viagra’, a medicine used for sex purposes, Diclofenic Sodium (pain killers), Famotidine based medicine used for ulcerative problems, medicines for treatment of kidney related problems and multi-vitamins. “A multi-vitamin product namely Centrum, A to Z vitamins, has been doing extremely good business these days and it is being smuggled from India, KSA and Dubai,” said a senior drug dealer pleading anonymity.

To a query, he said that due to the ongoing crackdown against illegal drug dealers, most of the markets have been cleared from spurious, smuggled drugs in district Rawalpindi, however the illegal business is still existing at well known drugstores where the smuggled items are being sold as imported products.

“Drugs smuggling is quite easy as compared to other products as heavy quantity of it could be smuggled in through a small bag,” said District Health Officer Dr. Khalid Randhawa when contacted by ‘The News’.

He claimed that most of the markets have been cleared from smuggled drugs and added, “I can not however claim that we have eliminated the devilish business completely.” He said that the major problem the health department is facing in cases of business of smuggled and imported medicines is detection of supply chain. “In case, we manage to catch a smuggled drugs dealer, we find that he is just a smugglers’ agent, a Phery Baz and not the real culprit.”

Brit caught by UK customs with 14000 amps of testosterone ( weighing 35 kg )

"A SHEFFIELD man was caught with thousands of pounds worth of illegal steroids stashed in two holdalls at Heathrow Airport, a court in London heard. Parvez Atta, of Main Road, Darnall, is accused of trying to smuggle 35 kilogrammes of testosterone – a banned Class C drug – into Britain in March this year.

The drug was contained in 14,000 tiny vials worth an estimated worth an estimated £40,000 on the blackmarket.

Atta, aged 37, told Isleworth Crown Court he had bought the substance from a man in Pakistan for around £6,000 before boarding a flight from Karachi.

After arriving in Heathrow Airport's Terminal 3 he was quizzed by customs officers and initially denied having anything to declare.

He later admitted he had the vials of the drug in two bags after officers said they wanted to search him.

Atta is later claimed to have said he planned to sell the vials in South Yorkshire for a few hundred pounds of profit, but that he did not know they were banned.

Customs Officer Hardeep Mohan said he arrested Atta after searching his bags and finding the drug contained in ampules, small vials used by doctors giving injections.

Mr Mohan told the court: "I asked him if had anything to declare and he said 'No'. I said, 'Are you sure, because I'm going to search your bags'.

"He said, 'I do have something in the bags', I said, 'What?' and he replied, 'Steroids'."

Atta was then taken to a room for questioning.

Atta denies knowingly importing an illegal Class C drug and his trial continues."

6000 UKP for 14000 amps means just 42 pence (USD $0.70) an amp and an estimated resale value of 2.85 UKP each (USD $4.72)

The baggage weight limit in economy class is usually 20kg, business 30kg so he either paid a hefty excess baggage charge or the two holdalls were his carry on luggage. ( In which case they can't be xraying hand luggage at Karachi's airport which is rather worrying ).

Pilot Study of Internet Drug Availability, Pricing and Quality.

Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND) is the lead sponsor of a bill — The Pharmaceutical Market Access and Drug Safety Bill — to allow importation of drugs from many countries, including via the internet. My recent research suggests Senator Dorgan is justified at least in terms of general safety. Although there is a wide variety in web site drug quality, my research team found that, with the exception of fake Viagra with packaging from China, none of the drugs failed our basic quality testing. However, in 20% of cases, a substitute drug was delivered, against requests for name-brand only, and these drugs could not be tested accurately, so there is certainly room for concern. But all the drugs we could test which we imported from Europe (and other locations Senator Dorgan’s bill will allow importation from) passed.

Three charged in Oklahoma steroids cases.

"A Vian man is accused in a federal grand jury indictment of manufacturing and distributing anabolic steroids to minors.

The charge is among two similar cases involving three men, including two former law enforcement officers, who were arraigned in federal court Tuesday:

Bobby Brown, 38, of Vian, was charged with possession with the intent to distribute and manufacture anabolic steroids, distributing to persons younger than 21, and selling within 1,000 feet of Vian High School.

Dusty Lee Burns, 29, of Checotah, and Jimmy Russell Hamm II aka “Rusty” Hamm, 31, were charged with drug conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute and manufacture anabolic steroids.

All of the defendants pleaded not guilty in federal court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Hamm is a former Creek Nation Lighthorseman and Burns is a former McIntosh County reserve deputy sheriff. Their alleged crimes occurred from around September 2005 until June 2008.

Brown’s alleged crimes took place between March 2006 and June 2008.

Brown is accused of distributing to three individuals, two of which are minors identified in the indictment by their first and last initials, and “others.”

The defendants were indicted by a grand jury on Aug. 11. The indictments were not unsealed until Tuesday at the defendents’ initial court appearance.

U.S. Attorney Sheldon Sperling said evidence does not strongly support that Brown was working in conjunction with Burns and Hamm, but said the indictments stemmed from the same investigation."

Turns out Massachusetts domestic bust was of famous scammer Chris Chase aka Chase152

This link will take your to my post with details of the court case.

The baseball trading card sale site mentioned in court was IJCARDS

He was also using the emails JUNI500@Safe-mail.net, dbo@cyber-rights.net and pps_mover@yahoo.com.

It's been suggested he and his friends might have been behind most of the scams where WU payments were sent to New Jersey.

It amazes me that he was able to advertise steroid sales and pick up funds in his real name for several years using Western Union and not get busted or caught up with by those he scammed.

Expert claims Turkey is biggest shipper of mail order drugs to the USA.

"According to information provided by Dr. Roger Bate in last week's Journal of the American Enterprise Institute, his limited study of a small sample of drugs in the US purchased over the Internet revealed that Turkey is the largest single supplier of drugs bought online in the US. He documented a number of raids in Turkey that revealed all aspects of the counterfeit drug trade -- importers and local manufacturers of counterfeit products, wholesale distributors repackaging fake and old medicines that should have been destroyed and printers making packaging for the manufacturers. “The products I have seen,” he told Today's Zaman, “were manufactured by large Western companies in Turkey for the Turkish market which were diverted -- possibly illegally -- to the US by Internet sellers.”"

Kurt Angle busted for juice driving.

"Kurt Angle was arrested in Pittsburgh, wpxi.com reported. The charges against the TNA world champion include driving while operating privilege is suspended, prohibited acts-possession, harassment and prohibited acts.

According to wpxi.com, the Web site for the NBC affiliate in Pittsburgh, Angle was served with a protection from abuse order this morning that was filed by his girlfriend, who was identified in the report as a TNA wrestler. Several months ago, Angle stated in media interviews that he was dating Rhaka Khan (Trenesha Biggers).

The woman in question told police that she was at a Starbucks when she claims that she saw Angle stalking her. She called police, who pulled Angle over in her car and found a capped syringe with two vials of HGH. Angle told police that he has a legal prescription for the drugs. According to the criminal complaint, Angle was driving on a suspended license."

Please remember driving around with juice in your car is the single easiest way to get busted.

Lack of Sleep Affects Glucose Tolerance, Insulin Sensitivity.

"Restricting sleep to under six hours a night along with sedentary living affects glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, possibly increasing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, according to a study published online June 30 in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.

Arlet V. Nedeltcheva, M.D., and colleagues from the University of Chicago examined whether restricted sleep (5.5 hours versus 8.5 hours per night) and sedentary living over two 14-day periods affected glucose tolerance and insulin secretion and action in 11 healthy middle-aged adults.

The researchers found that while weight gain was similar over both periods, restricting sleep to 5.5 hours a night significantly reduced oral glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity and significantly increased glucose effectiveness. Sleep restriction was not associated with changes in 24-hour cortisol and growth hormone concentrations, but there was a small increase in 24-hour epinephrine and night-time norepinephrine levels.

"Experimental bedtime restriction, designed to approximate the short sleep times experienced by many individuals in Westernized societies, may facilitate the development of insulin resistance and reduced glucose tolerance," Nedeltcheva and colleagues conclude."

Small steroid bust in Mississippi.

"Picayune Police Narcotics investigators have charged a Picayune resident with selling steroids.

According to a press release from the department, investigators charged Darrel J. Pomes, 26, of 900 Cedar Grove Rd., on Tuesday with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a school or church.

Deputy Chief David Ervin said steroids is just as illegal as any other controlled substance and is worthy of a felony charge. Ervin said the bust showed Pomes had what appeared to be an illegal means to possess the drug and the quantity on hand was enough for distribution.

The release states that once the investigators obtained a search warrant for Pomes’ home they found several vials of what is believed to be steroids along with syringes and other paraphernalia associated with selling the drug."

Miami HGH dsitributor convicted.

Jeffrey H. Sloman, Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and David W. Bourne, Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Food and Drug Administration ( FDA ), Office of Criminal Investigations, Miami Field Office, announced that after a two week trial before U.S. District Judge Alan S. Gold, a jury convicted Arnesto Segredo, 43, of Miami, of conspiring to divert the prescription drugs Serostim and Nutropin AQ, both human growth hormones, and one count of causing the diversion of these human growth hormones, in interstate commerce. Sentencing is scheduled for October 23, 2009 at 4:00 p.m.

According to the evidence presented at trial, Segredo caused California-based human growth hormone suppliers, all of which were unlicensed to engage in the wholesale distribution of prescription drugs in California, to regularly ship to him in Miami hundreds of boxes of Serostim, and some Nutropin AQ, from 2000 through the end of 2002. Serostim is an injectable drug approved by the FDA for the treatment of AIDS-wasting syndrome in HIV-infected patients, and Nutropin AQ is an injectable drug approved by the FDA for the treatment of growth hormone deficiency, including children with short stature.

From 2000 through 2001, Segredo operated Life Extension Institute, a Miami-based prescription drug wholesaler, which was also not licensed to engage in the distribution of prescription drugs in Florida. He later operated through Genendo Purchasing Organization, a Miami-based prescription drug wholesaler that became licensed in Florida in July 2001. A significant portion of the Serostim that Segredo distributed through these two companies originated from California-based AIDS patients who sold their Serostim supplies secured from the Medi-Cal Medicaid program.

Interesting info on the Indian pharmaceutical scene.

"The Delhi Drug Control Authority had recently seized a consignment of a top pharma firm after random checking conducted by it showed that a particular batch of tablets contained only 30-60 per cent of the stipulated chemical component.

The samples have now gone for second testing after the company challenged the claims of the department.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence too busted two such factories in Maharashtra recently seizing about 2,000 kg of Alprazolam and Diapam tablets, used for treating anxiety and muscle problems.

The factories in Aurangadabad and Thane districts each had been making the drugs (sub-standard) without having any license from excise department and even Food and Drug Authority of India, DRI officials said.

Last year, two major spurious drug rackets were busted in Gurgaon and Chennai. In Gurgaon on the outskirts of Delhi, 12 counterfeit drugs were detected and materials used for production seized while in Chennai, three cases of illegal import of bulk drugs (2,900 kg) from China were detected at its port."

The Mounties bust fake Viagra ring in Montréal, Canada.

"The Royal Canadian Mounted Police dismantled an organization specializing in the distribution of counterfeit erectile dysfunction drugs in the Montréal area. Nine suspects were arrested following 11 searches conducted at various locations, including sex shops. These persons could be charged with fraud, conspiracy to commit fraud, infringement of a registered trade-mark and distribution of materials protected by copyright.

The Federal Investigation Section officers used sophisticated investigative techniques to work their way up the distribution chain and purchased several thousands of counterfeit pills as part of their investigation initiated in February, 2008.

Health Canada’s analysis of counterfeit pills recently purchased has confirmed the presence of the active ingredients found in genuine erectile dysfunction drugs. The investigation and the searches conducted in the seizure of more than 15 000 pills similar in size, shape and colour to genuine pills. The alleged offenders illegally distributed pills on a large scale to various places of business, including sex shops, in the MontrĂ©al area.

Based on intelligence reports, the police were prompted to look into the illegal sale of prescription drugs as an emerging trend. These drugs can be found on the Internet, and are also sold on the street and in places of business. This new crime trend is not only limited to erectile dysfunction drugs, and recent investigation cases show the counterfeit pharmaceutical market to be fast-growing."

Another British guy caught smuggling steroids into a prison.

"Scott Bage, 28, was visiting his brother at HMP Onley, near Daventry, on February 23, when a guard spotted them acting suspiciously.

Rebecca Wade, prosecuting, said: "A prison guard was observing the visit first hand and via CCTV and one of the males shook hands with the inmate in what was thought to be a weird way, pulling each other towards each other. Daniel Bage's hand then went down his trousers and the CCTv showed a small package had been handed to him.

Northampton Crown Court heard how forensic analysis of the package revealed it contained four subutex tablets, which is an H substitute, and 41 methandienone steroids tablets."

Scottish needle exchange helping steriod users get clean ?

A new clinic for steroid users has convinced almost 30% of people accessing its services to stop injecting.

Its aim is to persuade people not to inject steroids by providing health education packs about the risks, as well as dietary and training regimes to safely gain the body image they are after.

Out of 72 steroid injectors who used the Tuesday evening clinic during the first 10 weeks of opening, 19 - or 27% - decided to leave without the special needle equipment after receiving specialist advice.

"Working with the manufacturers of needle exchange equipment we came up with a specific pack for people who use performance and image-enhancing drugs."

Sounds to me like a third of the clients were too embarassed to get their free injection pack after being lectured to :-(

BALCO Patrick Arnold chemist says David Ortiz's supplement tale feasible.

"Patrick Arnold, who did prison time for his role in the BALCO scandal, said it's possible Ortiz took 19-norandrostenedione, a supplement that contained the hard-core steroid nandrolone and which could be purchased legally in 2003.

"Yes, people back then did test positive because of supplements, and occasionally it was for nandrolone, which I think (Ortiz) is alluding to, but not verbatim," Arnold told the Daily News yesterday. "If he could say it was nandrolone, I'd say, 'OK, you may have a case.' In lieu of the fact there are no exact details (about what Ortiz took), the possibility of having a false positive from supplement use in 2003 is definitely plausible. We'll never learn if this is an excuse (for players) or a legitimate defense until we know more details about the substances in question."

Steroids 'not to blame' for British man's death !

"An inquest into his death at Bradford Coroner’s Court heard how the unemployed car sprayer had been known to take steroids to assist in his bodybuilding hobby since he lost his job 12 months before.

A post-mortem examination discovered that he had died of hypertenive and ischemic heart disease.

Reaching a verdict of natural causes, Coroner Roger Whittaker said: “Steroids played no part in his death.”

I'm surprised and pleased to see the British press being honest about steroids for a change.

More info on the Massachusetts domestic source case.

"Many of the packages which were shipped into the United States contained the prescription drugs but falsely declared that the packages contained test tube samples, mold samples, glass samples, measuring cups and glassware. The prescription drugs did not bear adequate directions for use in that the labeling did not contain directions under which a layperson could use the drugs safely and for their intended uses.

The drugs sold by the defendant originated in countries such as China, Turkey, Poland, and Romania and were not subject to the FDA's comprehensive review.

Once the prescription drugs entered the United States, they were distributed over the internet through websites and customers paid for the prescription drugs using credit cards and cash payments sent through the mail or by Western Union, MoneyGram, Pay Pal and PayByCheck. Most of the prescription drugs were paid for by credit card from customers in New Hampshire and throughout the United States. To enable the customers to pay for the illegally distributed prescription drugs, defendant Chase obtained 20 merchant accounts in his own name and also in the names of the other participants in the scheme. Between December 1, 2005, and September 30, 2006, Chase mailed approximately 520 packages within the United States and abroad.

Chase represented to the banks that the merchant bank accounts were intended for legitimate merchandise rather than for the illegal sale of prescription drugs. In this regard, Chase created decoy websites that falsely purported to sell legitimate merchandise and provided the names of these decoy websites to some of the banks. Chase used the merchant bank accounts to sell the prescription drugs through websites that were not disclosed to the banks.

Using the merchant bank accounts, credit card sales in the amount of approximately $671,465 were processed and electronically transferred to eleven bank accounts belonging to Chase and other participants in the scheme. Thereafter, approximately $549,047 was withdrawn, $425,890 of which was wire transferred overseas at Chase’s direction. "

Henry Ford Hospital report on designer steroid poisoning cases.

Three cases of patients suffering from the adverse affects of steroid-enriched dietary supplements have been reported by researchers at Henry Ford Hospital.

The cases of three otherwise healthy adult males, ages 21 to 38, were reported with symptoms including nausea, anorexia, jaundice, severe itching and renal failure.

* A 21-year-old previously healthy white male presented with nausea, anorexia, jaundice, and severe itching. He denied alcohol consumption or illicit drug use and took no prescription medications on a regular basis but did acknowledge use of the over-the-counter supplement Superdrol, a bodybuilding agent containing methasteron, for several months before his presentation. He had purchased this compound over the internet, and he discontinued taking the supplement at the onset of his symptoms.

* A previously healthy 30-year-old white businessman initially presented to a hospital with a 5-week history of jaundice and severe itching. His medications included omeprazole and herbal supplements including chondroitin sulfate, glucosamine, glutamine, and creatine. He also acknowledged the use of a bodybuilding supplement that contained dehydroepiandrosterone. Concerned about his symptoms, he stopped consuming this supplement just before his hospitalization.

* A 38-year-old previously healthy white man initially presented for evaluation of jaundice. He first noticed the onset of scleral icterus 6 weeks previously. His symptoms included intense and worsening itching, generalized fatigue, nausea, decreased energy, and weight loss. His past history was unremarkable. He denied alcohol or illicit drug use and used no prescription medications. Owing to worsening of his symptoms and renal failure, he was admitted to the hospital.

Sport's Greatest Cover Up.

"To achieve this success, the East German state ensured that it had the best of everything - facilities and equipment, coaching and medical back-up, psychological testing and dietary supplements. However, it was the scale of state sponsored doping - State Plan 14.25 - that set East Germany apart from any other sporting nation.

Over a twenty year period in the 1970s and 1980s, up to 10,000 athletes were chemically doped. Each year hundreds of thousands of steroid pills were administered. And the programme worked. East Germany became synonymous with gold medals and world records.

At its height, the programme employed up to 1,500 scientists and doctors. This was all backed up with the utmost secrecy - brutally enforced by the secret police, the Stazi."

On the eve of the World Athletics Championships in Berlin, BBC Science reporter Matt McGrath investigates the legacy of East Germany's sporting system in part one of a two part Discovery special - Sport's Greatest Cover Up."

New doping scandal story about the 1984 LA Olympics.

"The U.S. Olympic Committee, concerned about the potential embarrassment of a doping scandal involving American athletes at the 1984 Summer Olympic Games, conducted an informal drug testing program in the months leading up to the Los Angeles Games that allowed Olympic-caliber athletes testing positive for banned substances to escape sanctions, according to documents obtained by The Orange County Register and interviews with three officials involved with the program.

At least 34 U.S. track and field athletes either tested positive or had possible positive tests during six weeks of informal testing by USOC in the spring of 1984, according to confidential USOC memos. None of the athletes was sanctioned or lost eligibility, according to USOC documents and interviews."

Congress considers relaxing rules that make it hard to purchase drugs outside U.S.

"Dick Coury, 80, is a former Detroiter who retired to Florida. A few months back, he ordered the cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor from a Canadian Internet firm. The company mailed the drug to his home in Bradenton. He paid $112, instead of the $300 he would have paid at a local pharmacy.

But the next time he ordered, his shipment was stopped by the government. The Federal Drug Administration sent him a letter, he said, telling him the drug wasn't approved for sale in the country, even though Pfizer makes the medication and it is the best-selling drug in the United States and the world.

"It's the same exact pill. It's the real product," Coury said.

But under the FDA's rules, such shipments are illegal. While a person traveling to Canada may bring back a 90-day personal supply, it cannot legally be mailed if it's available in the United States."
