US FDA approves needle-free injector for Tev-Tropin.

The FDA has approved Tev-Tropin (somatropin [rDNA] for injection, from Teva) for administration by needle-free injection. The needle-free device, by Antares Pharma, will be marketed by Teva as the Tev-Tropin Tjet Injector system.

The injector system has been available in Japan for some time under the name Vison.

"Abstract. The aim of this study was to compare the therapeutic effects of rhGH administered either by subcutaneous needle-injection (pens) or subcutaneous needle-free jet-injection (VISION®). Furthermore, a survey was carried out after using VISION® for 12 mo. A needle-free injection group consisting of 18 subjects (11 males and 7 females, mean age 5.87 ± 2.05 yr at the start of hGH therapy) who have not used pen injectors to date, were allowed to use VISION® in their third to fifth years of GH therapy. In addition, a group of 8 subjects who had been using pen injectors at our clinic (6 males and 2 females, mean age 6.54 ± 2.78 at the start of GH therapy) was monitored as a control. The results indicate that there are no significant differences between the mean growth rates, growth rate SD scores or height SD scores when comparing injection devices. Furthermore, the survey of VISION® revealed that 70% of the subjects found it slightly or not painful at or after injection, 70% found VISION® very easy or easy to use, and 80% found the weight of the device appropriate. All subjects expressed a desire to continue using VISION® in the future. Our results suggest that there are no problems with the effectiveness of hGH treatment with VISION®, a needle-free jet-injection device and that VISION® is an effective device for children who have an aversion to needle injection."

New study on Muscle Dysmorphia.

"In his research, Baghurst made a distinction between bodybuilders that was not previously made. He divided bodybuilders into the sub-groups of “natural” and “non-natural.” Natural bodybuilding refers to competitions in which participants are drug-tested and must pass a polygraph regarding their lack of prohibited drug use. Non-natural bodybuilding refers to those competitions in which participants are not required to pass a polygraph, nor are they drug tested prior to competition.

Baghurst found that steroid use is not necessary to be heavily concerned with muscularity and leanness.

“Most people will assume bodybuilders using steroids are those with muscle dysmorphia,” he said. “By separating natural and non-natural bodybuilders, I found that either group is equally likely to have all of the traits of muscle dysmorphia with the exception of pharmacological use.”

Baghurst used the 27-question Muscle Dysmorphia Inventory to survey participants. The participants consisted of competitive natural and non-natural bodybuilders, non-competitive weight trainers who concentrate on improving physique and collegiate football players. The collegiate football players scored lowest on all subscales of muscle dysmorphia except for physique protection, where they scored highest. He found that collegiate football players do not appear to exhibit traits associated with muscle dysmorphia to the same degree as other weight-training groups.

Baghurst also found those males who were weight training to improve their physique, but were not bodybuilders also had some characteristics associated with muscle dysmorphia including dissatisfaction with their size and symmetry.

"This is an important finding, because it shows that someone doesn't have to be big and buff to have concerns about how muscular they are or how much body fat they have," Baghurst said."

Hedman’s flash Mercedes was raided by police in Stockholm in May.

He was travelling with another man and officers found 55 Stanozolol tablets in his car. It is believed they were discovered inside a pair of trousers in the vehicle.

The pills cannot be linked directly to Hedman, but when cops tested the keeper they found the substance in his blood.

Australian steroids appeal win.

A PIG-HUNTER who pleaded guilty to having more than 1000 steroid tablets has had his convictions set aside on appeal.

Rocco Carnese was fined $3000 for the two charges in October last year but appealed the convictions that Chief Justice Brian Martin ruled as being "manifestly excessive" and not taking into account the loss of his job over convictions.

The Court of Criminal Appeal ruled in favour of Carnese.

The court ruled that the penalties remain but convictions be set aside.

Ireland trying to prevent steroid use.

THE IRISH Medicines Board (IMB) is to appoint an information and education manager to inform the public of the effects of taking anabolic steroids. IMB chief executive Pat O’Mahony confirmed the appointment, stating it would take place in August.

According to Mr O’Mahony, the IMB has seen a 250 per cent increase in the number of seizures of illegal products being bought from websites and coming through customs and the postal service.

Meanwhile, Mr O’Mahony described as “reasonable” the penalty of €6,000 imposed on Dublin businessman Michael Kehoe found guilty last week of the possession of 80,000 anabolic steroid tablets four years ago. I would have thought they were reasonable penalties,” said Mr O’Mahony, adding that a precedent for imprisoning those found to be in possession of such illegal performance-enhancing substances existed as a result of a 2007 court ruling which sentenced Brian Wainstein ( Axio Labs and GenXXL's owner ) to two years’ imprisonment, comprising 20 months’ suspended and four months in prison.

This was for the sale and supply of prescription-only medical products, mainly anabolic steroids, through the internet and for the use of his premises as a base for the mail order of such products."

It's been alleged by ex-GenXXL employess that Brian had access to both the internet and the telephone during his four months in prison and was able to continue running his business.

Inhaled HGH coming soon :-)

"A multi-center clinical trial led by a Riley Hospital for Children endocrinologist has found that inhaled growth hormone (GH) is well tolerated by children with GH deficiency and that this easy-to-use method can, over a one-week period, safely deliver GH to the blood stream. In addition to having implications for those who need GH, this first pediatric study of administering it through the lungs may also help researchers interested in using this convenient method for effectively delivering other types of medications to children."

Are Antiperspirants Linked To Current Prostate And Breast Cancer Rates ?

"This featured abstract reveals an overlooked source of hormones: reservoirs of cutaneous generated hormones and pheromones (androgens), primarily from the "axillary organ" [5] . Apocrine sweat glands are concentrated in the axillae. Estrogen, testosterone, and androgen-based pheromones are contained within these apocrine sweat glands, and nearby cutaneous-aromatase convert testosterone and androstenedione to estradiol and estrone respectively [6-9] . Apocrine sweat secretion is initiated through emotion or stress as well as physical activity. These odor-free secretions become odorous through cutaneous bacterial transformation prompting a currently estimated global annual expenditure of $10 billion on antiperspirants to obstruct the normal function of the axillary organ [10] . Antiperspirants are considered drugs by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) because they affect the function of the body by reducing the amount of sweat that reaches the skin. By not being allowed to reach the skin, the hormonally laden sweat remains on and within the skin, making the antiperspirants potential endocrine disruptors as defined by the United States Environmental Protection Agency"

6000 + 3000 Euro fine for Irish steroid dealer.

"Michael Kehoe (27) was caught with the drugs in his home four years ago. He said he had them for himself and would occasionally give them away to friends.

Defence counsel, Peter Keane said his client suffers from Male Body Dysmorphia, a psychiatric disorder where the sufferer is obsessed with how their body appears. He said he became part of a “culture of steroid abuse” through the people he was training and mixing with.

Some 80,000 tablets were found consisting of six different types of steroids, including “Angel Dust”, “Pink Thai” and ephedrine.

They also found glass vials, a tablet moulding device, used needles, and price lists for anabolic steroids. There were payment documents relating to purchases from Russia, Pakistan and China and packaging originating from Thailand.

Mr Wright said all these drugs were banned in Ireland and people usually sourced them illegally on the internet. Their total value was estimated at about €20,000. Kehoe admitted in interview to buying “body-building stuff” online but said it was just for him and his friends.

Mr Keane said his client’s early guilty plea had saved the prosecution a complex trial which faced many technical difficulties. He said Kehoe had no previous convictions and was no longer taking steroids. He said after dropping out of computer science in Dublin City University he worked in fast food restaurants and as a doorman."

"He also ordered that he pay costs to the prosecution of €3,000 for the destruction by the Irish Medicines Board."

So this guy has eighty thousand tablets at home along with a tablet moulding device ( tablet press ? ) and a bunch of empty vials and they don't reach the conclusion that he was manufacturing and despite a guilty plea his case takes 4 years ?

Since when are Angel Dust and Ephedrine are steroids ?

A cost of three thousand euros to destroy some tablets ? I think an old fashioned fire would have done the job for less.

Paper in Journal of Sexual Medicine Cites Need for FDA-Approved Testosterone Treatment to Replace Growing Off-Label Use.

"A study to be published in the July 2009 issue of The Journal of Sexual Medicine reports that U.S. physicians wrote two million prescriptions a year for testosterone in 2006 and 2007, representing a significant increase since 2004. Importantly, 21% of the prescriptions written for male testosterone products were for women. Furthermore, the article notes that these statistics do not include the large number of prescriptions written for compounded testosterone formulations, a practice that has been criticized by the American Medical Association and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, among others."

German tourist busted for smuggling tiny amount of juice.

"A German national was arrested at Southwest Florida International Airport Tuesday after he allegedly smuggled steroids into the country.

Francesco Gigliotti, 45, of Cologne, was searched by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agent when he arrived at RSW. Upon searching Gigliotti's bag, the agent found a container of Deca-Durabolin (steroids), 250 milligrams of Enanthate (testosterone), two plastic syringes and four hypodermic needles, according to a Lee County Port Authority report.

Gigliotti faces five felony charges, including: two counts of possessing felony drugs, steroids and testosterone; two counts of smuggling steroids; and one count of possessing drug paraphernalia"

Possibly the most pathetic steroid bust in history involving just 3ml of injectables ( obviously intended for personal use ).

Steroid dealer from "The Wrestler" denied bail :-(

"A federal judge this afternoon denied bail for an actor from the film "The Wrestler," who led federal agents and police on a chase in February as they tried to arrest him on steroids charges.

U.S. District Judge Kenneth Karas said Scott Siegel's reckless and dangerous behavior during the car chase was of sufficient concern to keep the 34-year-old New Rochelle resident behind bars. But he told prosecutors to report back next week with details of the medical treatment Siegel is getting at the Westchester County jail.

Siegel's lawyer, Barry Levin, told the judge that the medical staff at the jail was ill-equipped to treat Siegel, who Levin said suffers from anxiety, hypertension and withdrawl from a 20-year addiction to anebolic steroids.

About 30 supporters of Siegel's attended the bail hearing and Levin said the defense was prepared to use three properties to post bail of up to $2 million. He offered that Siegel could be kept under house arrest with electronic home monitoring and free only to leave the house for appointments with doctors and lawyers.

Canadian health store owner tries to get conditional discharge after guilty plea in M1T designer steroid case.

"Shelley Sugarman told a provincial court judge that Joao Melo, 28, only sold the illegal drugs because customers asked him to supply them. "He felt pressure from the customers. He didn't want to lose the rest of their business," she said.

The raid followed an undercover sting operation set in motion after police received complaints that the store was selling the drugs. Officers posing as young men involved in martial arts went to the store several times and bought steroids from the couple, who kept the illegal drugs behind the counter or at the back of the store. The purchase were not entered into the cash register.

Melo told the undercover officers he sold the drug M1T (a short form of methyl-1-testosterone) from Andro Technologies to many people, "mostly bodybuilders and some fighters," said Straith, but also to some kids "who don't ever work out and just want to get bigger."

Botox scalp injections may cure baldness ?

"The treatment was discovered by accident by a US plastic surgeon. Dr Simon Ourian was trying to cure headaches suffered by his cancer-victim mum after chemotherapy.

After injecting Botox into her scalp, he was stunned to see her hair regrow.

Baldness is caused by the hair follicles shrinking, so no new ones are produced. But Botox dilates the blood vessels, which allows nutrients to the hair shaft and stimulates new growth.

Dr Ourian has tested on volunteers for three years at his Beverly Hills practice. The treatment needs repeated injections, but he saw a "dramatic" difference after one session."

Nigeria says 250 tonnes of fake drugs seized.

"Nigeria's food and drugs control agency seized 250 tonnes of fake pharmaceuticals and cosmetics valued at 2.7 million dollars in the northern city of Kano, an official said Sunday.

Three Nigerians and a foreigner suspected of importing the seized drugs into Nigeria have been arrested, Hashim Ubale Yusuf, director of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) told AFP.

"Our surveillence operations paid off on Saturday when we raided a warehouse and seized 250 tonnes of counterfeit drugs and cosmetics worth 2.7 million dollars," he said.

Fake and adulterated drugs are common in Nigeria because of the high cost of imported ones."

Dear Friend,

My name is Igabo Bigwabwe, the head of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), if you would like to claim the 250 tonnes of drugs please send me your bank account details and ten thousand $'s to cover the costs of their unseizing. We will then ship the millions of dollars worth of products to your home. Please act quickly or I will be forced to burn them.

Yours Very Very Sincereley,

Polish fake Viagra site busted.

"Fraudster Jan Nowak is facing a stiff jail sentence - after being caught selling Viagra mixed with cement dust. Police have charged him with 90 cases of medical fraud after smashing his Internet pharmacy racket in Elk, Poland.

Nowak - now facing eight years in jail - had been flogging the 5 GBP-a-time pills for two years.

"We're contacting all his previous customers to warn them but some of them are going to be pretty embarrassed about coming forward," said a police spokesman."

S.J. internet pharmacy doc forfeits $2 million in earnings.

"A South Jersey physician was sentenced to 5 years probation this morning and must forfeit $2 million in earnings for writing prescriptions for thousands of online pharmacy customers without examining them.

Dr. Ranvir Alawat, of Toms River, worked with internet pharmacies operating in California, Florida, and Louisiana. Alawat wrote the prescriptions for potentially addictive drugs in 2003 and 2004 based only on internet questionaires.

When Alawat discovered how lucrative the business could be, he launched his own pharmaceutical website, prosecutors said. Alawat, who was found guilty in February 2007 of three counts of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and a count of money laundering, admitted to U.S. District Judge Robert F. Kelly in Philadelphia that he had made a "horrible mistake." Alawat also must pay a $6,000 fine."

The Compounding Center in Arizona in trouble for HGH sales.

"A federal grand jury in Phoenix returned an indictment on Wednesday against the Compounding Center, Inc., a pharmacy located in Phoenix, and Sean Shaffer, 29, of Phoenix, for Conspiracy in relation to the Prohibited Distribution of Human Growth Hormone. Shaffer was also indicted for two additional counts of Prohibited Distribution of Human Growth Hormone.

The indictment further alleges the Compounding Center operated a wholesale department, run by Shaffer, that sold Saizen, a brand of HGH, directly to doctors and other licensed buyers without the receipt of a prescription. Through their advertisements and solicitations, the Compounding Center was able to attract the attention of certain doctors whose practices primarily centered on the purported treatment of anti-aging, performance enhancement and life extension. From on or about November 2001 through on or about March 2006, the Compounding Center and Shaffer sold between approximately $1.2 million to $8.2 million worth of Saizen to these doctors despite there being no indication that these doctors engaged in the treatment of a disease or other recognized medical condition approved by the FDA in relation to the use of this drug. These sales accounted for approximately 38% of the wholesale business conducted by the Compounding Center during the period relevant to the indictment. During the course of the conspiracy, Shaffer, in his capacity as the manager of the wholesale department of the Compounding Center, also sold a number of HGH kits to two undercover operatives who specifically told Shaffer that the purchases were for bodybuilders and athletes."

UG Lab busted in San Antonio, Texas.

DEA agents made a controlled delivery of a raw powder shipment ( origin currently unknown ) following a tip off that described deliveries of several suspicious looking packages. Agents discover a UG lab producing capsules and injectables. No external packaging / labels were found I presume they were stored at the second address that was searched ( details of which are still secret ).

Looks like they found at least 15000 finshed capsules and several thousand vials.

Close up shot of the capsules lab was producing ( I'm sure some of you will recognise them, if you do please comment on the post and give us the UG's brand name ).

Raw powders found at the lab ( or possibly the contents of the packages that was the controlled delivery ).

Australian Human Growth Hormone smuggler convicted

"A Customs and Border Protection investigation has led to the successful prosecution of a 32-year-old Carlton man for illegally importing 70 ampoules of Human Growth Hormone (HGH) in the post from China.

Mohamed Sabra was convicted on Tuesday (9 June) in Downing Centre Local Court and ordered to pay a total of $17,000 in fines and costs in relation to Human Growth Hormone smuggling offences.

The investigation began following the detection of a package in Sydney on 9 March 2008.

The package was the subject of an x-ray examination, at which time anomalies were detected. Following a further examination, 50 ampoules of Human Growth Hormone were found in the package.

A second package addressed to the same recipient arrived in Sydney on 14 March 2008 and when examined by a Customs and Border Protection officer it was found to contain 20 ampoules of Human Growth Hormone."

The moral of this story is never ship a second package until the first one has safely arrived.

New HGH research suggests low dosages may not give full health benefits.

"Despite significant reduction in cholesterol levels in adults with growth hormone deficiency treated with recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH), taking lower doses of rhGH may not result in improvement in cardiac structure and function."

"Although the study was underpowered, individuals taking lower doses of GH may not have improvement in cardiac structure and function, despite significant improvement in lipid profiles and normalization of IGF-1," concluded Dr. Frisch"

Further studies are needed to find an optimal GH dose that would avoid supraphysiological IGF-1 levels and the associated toxicities, acknowledged the investigators."

Lutheran Pastor ( in Russia ) Convicted of Selling Steroids

"A Karelian court sentenced a Lutheran pastor to three years in prison Monday for illegally selling steroids to bodybuilders, Interfax reported.

The Petrozavodsk City Court found Andrei Antonov, 44, pastor of the city's Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, guilty of organizing a criminal group in 2007 with a friend, Gennady Yeroshkin, who worked for Karelia's Federation of Bodybuilders. The two men were accused of selling illegal steroids to bodybuilders at a gym in Petrozavodsk, the capital of the republic in northwestern Russia.

Yeroshkin was sentenced to four years in prison Monday.

Officers with the Federal Drug Control Service and the Federal Security Service seized more than 8,000 pills and 200 vials of steroids, most of which were kept in the church where the pastor worked, when they arrested the two men in March 2008, Interfax said."

Body shaping: a dangerous new trend

"The fashion for pumped-up gym physiques is leading boys as young as 12 to risk their health by taking anabolic steroids"

Despite the sensationalist headlines this is actually quite a sensible article on steroid usage .

"Dawson is anxious that government policy on anabolic steroids should not be directed by the considerations of elite sport and he is concerned by the paradox thrown up by the proposed male contraceptive, an anabolic steroid that would be given in “a dose that probably would have performance benefits”. He hopes too that the harmonisation of European legislation will not lead to the drugs’ criminalisation.

“That would drive this problem underground. The current classification is the right one because it makes a clear statement that you mustn’t give these to other people but you can seek care. We need to engage with these people, to educate them, to regain trust. When we say there are potential health problems, they need to know we are telling the truth. How can we further research sideeffects if these people can’t come forward with impunity?"

Details of the London clinic called Smart Muscle ( offering liver-function tests, needles and syringes ) discussed in the article are below :-

"The free and confidential sessions take place every Tuesday evening between six pm and nine pm at 31 Wardour Street, Soho, London W1D 6PT. Telephone 020 7851 2955."

"The service is completely free and confidential. It provides information on diet, training, cycles, stacks, post cycle therapy, side effects and help to identify counterfeit drugs."

Testosterone Decreases after Ingestion of Sugar (Glucose)

"Men with low testosterone should have their hormone levels retested after they fast overnight because eating may transiently lower testosterone levels, a new study concludes.

The authors found that the glucose solution decreased blood levels of testosterone by as much as 25 percent, regardless of whether the men had diabetes, prediabetes or normal glucose tolerance.

Two hours after glucose administration, the testosterone level remained much lower than before the test in 73 of the 74 men, a statistically significant difference, the authors reported. Of the 66 men who had normal testosterone levels before the test, 10 (15 percent) became hypogonadal at one or more time points during the test.

The results did not differ by changes in insulin levels, according to the abstract. Other hormones that could change testosterone measurements also did not appear to affect results. Hayes said more research is needed to find the factor or factors responsible for this drop in testosterone.

Because glucose intake, and likely food, decreases testosterone, she said, “This research supports the notion that men found to have low testosterone levels should be reevaluated in the fasting state.”

The idea that everytime we eat our Testosterone levels may fall for several hours is quite a scary one. ( particularly for those of us who like to eat very often )

Testosterone replacement improves men's liver function.

"A new study suggests that testosterone replacement for men with low levels of the hormone greatly improves their fatty liver disease as well as their risk factors for cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

"Physicians often are reluctant to prescribe testosterone for conditions not related to sexual function. However, our study shows that testosterone has a much wider therapeutic role than just for improving sexual desire and erectile function"

Testosterone and Growth Hormone Improve Body Composition and Muscle Performance in Older Men.

Conclusions: Supplemental testosterone produced significant gains in total and appendicular lean mass, muscle strength, and aerobic endurance with significant reductions in whole-body and trunk fat. Outcomes appeared to be further enhanced with GH supplementation.

Testosterone thief in Olympia pleads guilty.

Former Bodybuilder Discusses Possible Hydroxycut Side Effects

"Among the people who took Hydroxycut supplements are bodybuilders, who hoped to use the supplement to help obtain and maintain a chiseled look. Melissa P. (not her real name) is among that group. She took Hydroxycut diet supplements in the hope of one day becoming a fitness model. Now, Melissa faces a future liver transplant and wonders if she suffers from Hydroxycut liver damage.

"In the 1990s, I was very active and involved in exercise," Melissa says. "Then, in the mid-90s, I became involved in amateur bodybuilding. My plans were to advance as far as being a fitness model. I had seen ads for Hydroxycut in all the various bodybuilding magazines that I subscribed to. You know, when you’re really working out and you have a goal, you try to get any help you can, short of steroids. I starting using Hydroxycut and I liked the results. I got chiseled and cut and looked good. I took it from the mid-90s up until around 2004. Like I say, I had a great body."

Phase III Testosterone Undecanoate injection (male HRT) results announced.

Men with primary or secondary hypogonadism assigned to testosterone replacement injection therapy reached normal levels of testosterone that remained consistent for 64 weeks, according to phase 3 study data presented here.

In the phase-3, open-label study, researchers assigned 130 men with serum testosterone levels less than 300 ng/dL to 750 mg testosterone undecanoate as an intramuscular injection (Endo Pharmaceuticals). Testosterone injection was administered at baseline, week four and then every 10 weeks after for a total of 84 weeks, or eight injections. This update includes effects on sex hormones through the end of the seventh injection interval (64 weeks).

After the first injection, eugonadal serum testosterone levels increased rapidly and the effect was maintained. Mean testosterone concentrations remained in the normal range — 300 ng/dL to 1,000 ng/dL — throughout the study period. Once steady values of free testosterone, sex hormone-binding globulin, dihydrotestosterone and estradiol were attained, the effect remained relatively consistent. The ratio of sex hormones to testosterone also remained constant.

Only having to inject every ten weeks would be very convenient for HRT purposes.

I'm confused why Endo Pharmaceuticals and not Schering is conducting these trials in the USA. Schering's Testosterone Undecanoate injection Nebido is already available in several countries.

Phase II Ostarine (SARM) results announced.

"GTx, Inc. today announced results of a Phase II clinical trial evaluating Ostarine™ (MK-2866), an investigational selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM), in patients with cancer induced muscle loss, also known as cancer cachexia.

In the study, Ostarine treatment led to statistically significant increase in lean body mass (LBM) and improvement in muscle performance measured by stair climb in patients with cancer cachexia compared to baseline in both the Ostarine 1 mg and 3 mg treatment cohorts. These study results were the subject today of an oral podium presentation at the 2009 Annual Meeting of the Endocrine Society in Washington."

A Natural Hormone May Protect Muscle from Atrophy.

"Researchers have found a potential new treatment for the common problem of muscle atrophy. In this new study, the researchers discovered that des-acyl ghrelin has a direct anti-atrophic activity on the skeletal muscle of mice with muscular atrophy caused by either denervation (nerve injury) or fasting. Mice that were genetically altered to have increased levels of des-acyl ghrelin had less skeletal muscle loss than the untreated control mice. This held true for both causes of muscular atrophy.

The mechanism by which des-acyl ghrelin protects muscle against atrophy is not yet known, the authors reported. However, it is distinct from the action of anabolic steroids and IGF-1."

Crackdown on Egyptian pharmaceutical counterfeiters.

"Over the past two months, Egyptian police authorities have carried out a series of strategic raids and arrested five key suspects as part of an ongoing investigation against counterfeit medical products.

Ten containers were seized, each holding hundreds of thousands of counterfeit medicines bound for the Middle East. Three of the containers were seized by Egyptian customs in the Suez Canal, and 3,300 bottles of counterfeit pharmaceuticals at Cairo airport.

An Interpol statement said the taskforce believes that the raids are all linked to the same international criminal network."

Androgel's maker Solvay trying to stop generic versions being sold ?

"Belgium's Solvay said on Wednesday rival firm Perrigo Israel Pharmaceuticals had applied for approval from U.S. authorities to sell a generic version of Solvay's treatment for testosterone deficiency."

"At the start of this year, the Federal Trade Commission filed a complaint challenging agreements in which Solvay allegedly paid generic drug makers Watson Pharmaceuticals and Par Pharmaceutical Companies to delay generic competition."

"Worldwide sales of Androgel rose by 9 percent to 337 million euros ($475.5 million) last year.

I had no idea that the sales of Testosterone gels were soo high, doesn't sound like Solvay is playing fair when it comes to defending it's market share.

BBC reports number of steroid users in UK has doubled in the last five years.

"Professor Les Iversen thinks an explosion in websites selling the muscle-building drug has made it far easier to get hold of. "

( safer imho than the dodgy fakes and UG stuff I was forced to use pre-internet )

The number of young people taking steroids may have doubled in five years, according to one of the government's top drug advisers.

( and yet my good friend's famous hardcore gym based in London has less members than ever before, guess all these teenage juicers are training at home )

"The great majority of users don't even realise they're taking an illegal substance," he said.

( last time I checked they wern't, sounds like the UK's experts are a victim of US anti-steroid propaganda or maybe he is talking about the evil world of designer steroids sold as nutritional supplements )

Drug workers say steroids bought online are also more likely to be out of date.

( surely they could have come up with something more scary than this )

The professor, who is leading a major study into steroid use for the home secretary, added: "You can order them relatively inexpensively from China or India.

( of course they are presuming that every guy who advertises them for sale will actually deliver, sadly those two countries are notorious for scammers )

"The internet has changed the market for all drugs and steroids are no exception.

( correct it's changed it for the better and driven prices down )

"I did a Google search for anabolic steroid purchase and it returned 492,000 hits.

( they're called results professor )

"Many of the sites are offshore and very difficult for the government to control."

( without placing a test order you would have no idea where they are really based, the UK government is I suspect blaming foreign suppliers so they have an excuse to change the current sensible personal import allowance rules )

"Buying from the internet you are left to your own devices with no advice and no guidance. That's obviously people's choice but I know where I would rather be going."

( there's more good advice and guidance to be found online than you'd get from your average hardcore gym dealer )

A group of drug experts led by Professor Iversen is now putting together a report for the government that could recommend tightening some of the rules around steroid use.
"There will be some debate about that," he said. "It's one option I'm sure will be considered. But if you ask for my personal view, I don't think criminalising young people is the answer."

( let me guess right up until the law change actually happens we're going to pretend there's no plan to criminalize possession. I just hope the professors on HRT so that he might empathize a little with his fellow juice users ) .

Austrian cyclist Kohl talks about his doping in L’Equipe magazine interview.

"It was in August, 2007, when I submitted to the first extraction of blood destined to be used in the 2008 Tour. The second was in November, a liter each time,” Kohl told L’Equipe. “I had two liters at my disposition for July 2008. My blood was prepared, the plasma globules separated, coded and frozen.”

Kohl outlined when he would re-inject the blood into his system before key moments of the race, giving his system extra capacity to carry oxygen to his muscles needed to propel him up the torturous mountain roads. "

Last year, Kohl rode to third place overall and won the King of the Mountains climber’s jersey only to test positive last fall for the third-generation blood-booster CERA. He was stripped of his Tour results and has been banned for two years from competition.

The 27-year-old Austrian said the blood transfusions were the only “safe” way to cheat during the race without risk of getting caught. Other doping products were used in the weeks and months before the Tour to avoid detection.
“Nothing else, there were too many random controls. Never a testosterone patch,” he said. “Apart from the caffeine, pseudo-ephedrine, painkillers, EPO, human growth hormones, insulin, I took all that before, not during (the Tour).”

Wrongly delivered Chinese tablet shipment ends in arrest.

"Police launched an investigation of Peter XXXXXX, 38, of 101 XXXXXXXX St., in March after a package containing more than 1,000 pills of anabolic steroids, along with 60 Viagra pills and 300 white pills of an indeterminate substance, were mistakenly delivered to an apartment on Adams Avenue, said Lt. Jon Fontneau, head of the narcotics and organized crime unit.

The Adams Avenue tenant notified police after they opened the package and found the drugs, Fontneau said. Police said Peter tracked the package online and when he went to retrieve it, the Adams Avenue resident told him he had turned it over to police. Peter was seen on video surveillance speaking with the Adams Avenue resident in a hallway and last month, police obtained an arrest warrant for him, Fontneau said."

Guess it wasn't his lucky day. I'm not quite sure how poor Peter worked out where his package was, I presume the tracking system would have shown his address and not the one it went to by mistake, perhaps he recognised the name of the person who signed for it.

In a situation like this it's a tough call on whether to try and recover the pack or not. ( IMHO most honest citizens would not open a pack addressed to someone else. )

AR reports busted Texan UGL was called "Global Hormone"

We're currently not sure if there are two different UGLs using a similar sounding name ( one with the word 'Compounds' one without ).

The picture above found on
Steroidology of Global Hormone Compounds' products. It appears the lab has been running since 2006 and was using product names stolen from other manufacturers rather than coming up with their own ( Nandrolic, Testenon etc). The products themselves don't seem to have a very good reputation amongst users despite there being a set of lab tests in circulation showing them to be well overdosed.

New bodybuilding documentary "I Want to Look Like That Guy"

"I Want to Look Like That Guy, the new feature length documentary by Michigan film maker Stuart MacDonald, is a ground breaking movie about what it really takes to look like the guy in fitness ads. The film exposes the false claims in fitness ads and the deceptive advertising practices that rip off billions of dollars a year from consumers. Once you see what the film maker went through to look lean and ripped, you'll never look at an ad the same way and you will re-think what a normal body image should look like. It is quite funny at times and loaded with old black and white educational films that show you just how far fitness has come and how gullible we still are when it comes to supplement ads in muscle magazines and exercise equipment advertising. You could say this movie is just like Morgan Spurlock's Super Size Me but in reverse!"

I'm trying to get my hands on a full copy of the DVD for review.

Former steroid dealer busted for British ED meds site.

"Hickman was charged with dealing in fake and unlicensed medicine and money laundering. He admitted six counts. Investigators found his website, MSH World Traders, had a turnover of £6.1m in just three years and made him a profit of £3.4m."

"Some of the pills he was buying from India and selling to clients all over Europe were fake and some were made to look like the licensed Viagra products.

Judge Deborah Taylor sitting at said: "Whilst no bulk quantities of these drugs were found at your premises, your account with the Post Office indicated that you were holding stock of drugs worth half a million."

"MHRA investigators came across Hickman's website and raided his farmhouse home where the business was based. The site was closed down, but Hickman continued to trade and in 2007 was jailed for three months for ignoring the injunction. The court also heard that in 1998 he was jailed for 10 months for conspiracy to trade in steroids."

Two sentenced to probation in Oklahoma bust from ealier this year.

"Court records indicate that Tulsan Tom Burke and Chris Waid of Bixby both received deferred sentences for their roles in what authorities called a widespread steroid-distribution ring."

"Burke pleaded guilty to a felony conspiracy charge during a court appearance Thursday and was sentenced to two years of probation. Two lesser charges were thrown out in the plea deal, court documents indicate.

Authorities arrested five other people in the April 16 warrant sweep. They are all free on bond, and their court cases are pending.

The inquiry steadily became more intensive since it began in December 2007, Surber said, noting that the probe is ongoing and likely will result in more arrests.

"It's been very difficult for me to estimate when this investigation is going to end," he said."

More arrests in the Fort Bend County, Texas bust.

"Sources inside the Fort Bend County Sheriff's office tell us four Copperas Cove firefighters have turned themselves in, admitting some involvement in this steroids operation. Meanwhile the man alleged to be at the center of the crimes remains out of custody and at work."

"At least 16 of those suspect appeared in court for the first time on Monday. Authorities accuse most of conspiracy of distributing hundreds of thousands of doses of steroids and human growth hormones. The suspects appearing in court Monday had their cases reset till next month. "

Scam warning : asiapharma. us

The real Asia Phrams's forum reps have posted a warning about the impersonator's site ( www.asiapharma. us ).

"Usually 60% of airmail packages arrive under 3 days, while 20-30% will arrive in 4 days and still others will show up at around 5 days. This is a reflection of inconsistencies with various postal representatives, and not services provided by us."

The impersonator makes some rather impressive claims about international delivery times !

Austalian Olympic kayaker convicted of running drug ring.

"When the Olympic kayaker was busted for steroid-use in 2005 by ASADA, he told authorities it was his brother's fault for leaving an unlabelled mixture of steroids and orange juice in the family fridge. When he was arrested and charged with manufacturing X, his demise was the sporting world's fault for banning him from competition.

In a statement of agreed facts, police said the brothers used false identities to run the drug ring and import parts for the pill press.

Both brothers spoke with buyers in coded messages and arranged transactions using a special, password-protected email account. Telephone and text message intercepts heard the Baggaleys refer to 1000 tablets of X as "hours", while money was referred to as "overtime papers".

Some of Dru Baggaley's former drug world associates are now trying to kill him in jail, he said in a statement to the court. He has been moved into segregation after one attempt on his life.

In Nathan's words, the catalyst for his descent came when he tested positive to anabolic steroids in 2005 - an incident he has long maintained was an accident."

"Authorities believe the press was used to manufacture almost 15,000 tablets - each embossed with a Maltese Cross insignia - with an estimated street value of $2.5 million.

Statements, character references and police facts tendered to the court provided a detailed account of Nathan Baggaley's downfall, which he claims began when he was barred from competition. His statement describes himself as a victim of circumstance, forced to dabble in drugs to save his younger brother, Dru, who was facing mounting debts and pressure from standover men.

To police, however, he was calculating, greedy and determined to use drug dealing to avoid work and train full-time for the Beijing Olympics. When Dru asked him to help out with a small loan for the family business, Nathan claimed he had no idea the money was being used to buy tablets and drug supplies.

When the money went missing, he said he was forced to step into his brother's shoes to recover the cash. The pill press was then moved into a Byron Bay industrial estate where Nathan was living and running a kayak-manufacturing business. "

Pakistani pharmacist arrested for selling banned drugs.

"An Excise and Taxation team raided a medical store in Chuhng and arrested its owner for selling steroids and other prohibited drugs, a private TV channel reported.

Rumour has it this was one of the guys advertising on the famous Chinese B2B sites. In another local news report the steroids were identified as Proviron.

More info on Dr Scruggs' case.

"According to records, Scruggs' medical license was revoked in 2007 by the Medical Board of California after he allegedly set up a website in 1999 where patients were allowed to receive prescriptions for hormone replacement therapy and anabolic steroids, which are used to increase muscle mass, strength and endurance. According to disciplinary records of the medical board, 6,073 prescriptions were issued.

In his plea agreement, Scruggs admitted to distributing 250 to 1,000 vials of anabolic steroids and that in May 17, 2003, he prescribed anabolic steroid testosterone to a patient in Santa Clara County. He also admitted to asking other for help in distributing the drugs, including asking someone to transfer $3,605 from his account to China, funds that were to be used to pay for HGH.

One patient, identified as Erich M. from Florida, developed two benign tumors.

According to records that were reviewed, Erich M. contacted Scruggs through the phone and told him he wanted to increase his weight to 220 pounds from the 175 he weighed at the time. Scruggs prescribed several drugs, which the patient stopped taking after he had "unsatisfactory results."

Another patient, identified as Bruce R. of New York City, had a history of hypertension and contacted the doctor because he wanted to gain weight. Without an examination, Scruggs prescribed anabolic steroids and testosterone.

"The use of testosterone and anabolic steroids in a patient with hypertension is dangerous since they may exacerbate hypertension and cause fluid retention, as occurred in this case," according to records.

In another case, Scruggs prescribed steroids after a phone consultation even though the patient suffered from high fat levels in the blood, a practice that placed the patient at a substantial risk of cardiovascular disease, according to records."

"A Tustin doctor who counted former Angels Troy Glaus and Scott Schoeneweis as patients has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to illegally distribute steroids and illegally smuggle human growth hormone into the U.S., federal prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Dr. Ramon Scruggs, 61, also pleaded guilty to one count of money laundering, admitting in his Monday plea bargain that he “distributed anabolic steroids and HGH to individuals in a manner outside the usual course of professional practice while operating his medical practice at New Hope Health Center in Costa Mesa,” according to a U.S. attorney’s office news release.

“Dr. Scruggs further admitted that he knew that such distributions were not for a legitimate medical purpose, and that they were instead for non-legitimate purposes, including performance enhancement,” the release said."

One of the infamous "Deprospo" brothers busted again !

"On May 30 at 6:09 p.m. police stopped a vehicle on Arlington Street by Arsenal Street whose owner had a drug-related warrant. Justin M. Deprospo, 24, of 10 Merrill Road was arrested on the warrant. He was also charged with distributing a Class E drug (steroids), subsequent offense, as there were large amounts of steroids inside his vehicle."

Their original bust should really be described as the 'fake' "British Dragon" bust as all the products involved were made by IP China and British Dragon's ex-partner based in Moldova.

Floridian man accused of dealing steroids freed.

"A 35-year-old Lakeland man accused of being a large-scale anabolic steroids dealer left jail Thursday evening after a federal hearing earlier in the day."

"Thomas must stay at his mother's home, and she agreed to sign a signature bond to pay $25,000 if her son doesn't make his court appearances. Wilson ordered that Thomas cannot possess or use illegal substances and must submit to testing."

Steroid defense fails for British knife attacker.

"Mr Mark Jackson, defending, said Jennings had been on a cocktail of drink and drugs and was also suffering from the side effects of steroids. This had led to him behaving in an aggressive manner although he was not suffering from mental illness. He was ashamed of what he had done.

The judge said the woman would have been terrified and the effects of her ordeal would last for ever. He was satisfied that Jennings was a danger to the public and that his intent was to carry out rape."

I'm back online !

Sorry for the lack of updates since Tuesday. I've moved house yet again and it's taken a while to get my PCs and net connection up and running.

The famous juice prescribing Doctor Ramon Scruggs pleads guilty.

"Scruggs is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 14. He was indicted in April 2008 on 11 charges stemming from his suspected distribution of steroids and human growth hormone to patients who did not have legitimate medical reasons for using the substances.

The New York Times reported in April that the players Troy Glaus and Todd Greene testified before a federal grand jury investigating Scruggs that their agents — Mike Nicotera and Gene Casaleggio — referred them to Scruggs.

Two other players, Scott Schoeneweis and Ismael Valdez, said that Scruggs provided them with steroids.

In an interview with The Times in April, Scruggs said that he provided patients with substances because they pressured him.

“I don’t have any emotional reserve left,” Scruggs said then. “I have been fighting this for 10 years. It has destroyed myself, my life and my family. If I was smart I would be on a beach in Manawatu.”

"American Idol", the Baseball doping book from the NY Daily News team.

"The depth of information in American Icon shows off the authors' reporting background. Besides the "hundreds of interviews" the team conducted, they relied on documentary evidence such as sworn depositions, medical records, courtroom transcripts, photographs, records from criminal investigations, and personal correspondence.

The e-mails, text messages and phone calls from Clemens and McNamee might be the most compelling elements in the entire drama. At one point, their exchanges show a real desperation in both men. McNamee is racked with guilt for having to spill his story to the feds, while Clemens waffles between confusion and bravado while trying to get out of the toughest bases-loaded jam of his career. "

Illegal bodybuilding clubs go unchecked in Islamabad.

"ISLAMABAD: There are dozens of illegal bodybuilding clubs operating in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. These clubs, located in residential and industrial areas are unknown by authorities and bodybuilding associations.

Yahya believes that illegal gyms are not familiar with international rules, and some of their bodybuilders are using steroids to enhance their stamina to participate in international events. The use of steroids is harmful to the interest of the bodybuilder and the country, but players are unaware of this said Yahya.

Dr. Latif Gill a renowned physicians said that there is a large population of young men in the city addicted to steroids. Steroids such as Anatrofin, Anaxvar and Bolasterone are commonly used. "

Doctor Gill's commonly used steroids probably havn't been seen since the 80's unless of course Islamabad has a UG who's only source of steroid info is a copy of Duchaine's Undergound Steroid Handbook :-)

More details emerge in the Florida bust.

"Investigative records show that the drugs came in packages from countries outside the United States. Thomas said he bought them from places like China, Russia, Iran and other Middle Eastern countries.

The complaint, made public today, charges Thomas with manufacturing, distributing or dispensing a controlled substance. He is charged with 10 counts in state court.

Agents with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said they intercepted a suspicious package in Philadelphia on May 21. The package was sent from Slovakia and addressed to "Mahlon" Thomas in Lakeland.

Agents and undercover Polk County sheriff's deputies wired the package to alert them if it had been opened. The package was delivered to Thomas' address, and within five minutes an alert was sent that the package had been opened, the affidavit said. Thomas was the only person at the home at the time.

During the search, and after Thomas was read his rights, he told agents that he would "beat any charges like he had in the past," and that "the only thing he knows is selling steroids," the affidavit said."

I get the feeling insanity is the planned defense :-(

We now know the international source people need to avoid ships from Slovakia and stocks both Genesis and Omnadren, if anyone knows who it is please comment on this post :-)

"A criminal complaint released today said federal officials intercepted a package of steroids from Slovakia at a Philadelphia airport in May 2006. The mailing address on the package said it was headed to Thomas' house in Lakeland.

The complaint alleges investigators last week sent Richard Thomas a "steroid package" wired with an "electronic beacon," which emits an alert when it is opened."
